See You In The Center Interactive Card - TLC Designs

Hello, my crafty friends. Today’s card is made with images from the Gnome Celebrations stamp set and the See You In The Center die set, both from TLC Designs.

I started by stamping the images with an ink that is compatible with alcohol markers since I will be coloring with my Ohuhu markers, onto smooth white cardstock.

After coloring the images, I sent them through my Brother Scan N Cut to cut them with a 1mm white border around them.

From the See You In The Center die set, I cut all of the components I needed to create this interactive card.  I had to stack several of the die cuts to create thicker components so they would withstand the moving back and forth.

After I cut two white pieces with the largest of the nesting dies, I cut a piece of mint green 80# cardstock with the same die.

I then cut what would be my card front with the 2^nd largest die out of white cardstock and a piece of patterned paper from the Celebrated Times slimline designer paper pack. I glued the patterned paper on top of the white cardstock.  I used the smaller of the two slider components to cut from the card front. After that, I used the tiny hole punch die to cut where the die leaves an embossed circle.

This interactive card requires seven mini brads to hold together all of the components.  This allows the movement when you move the dial back and forth. I assembled the card according to the instructions on the back of the die set.

That’s it. A very easy and inexpensive interactive card.

Happy Bouquet Digi Stamp Card with Products By TLC Designs Plus Tips For Mailing Handmade Greeting Cards

 Hello my crafty friends. This is Shannon and I’m so happy to be here with you today on the TLC Designs blog. I hope you’re enjoying the spring weather. I know I am.  

If you’ve read any of my recent posts, you know that I am a new fan of digi stamps.  They are so much fun! You can print them individually or create an entire one-layer scene with them. If you haven’t tried digital stamps, I highly recommend them.  The design possibilities are endless and their price point is unbeatable.

Today’s post is about digi stamps, but I also want to touch on the subject of mailing cards with lumpy embellishments on them.  If you’ve ever created a card with pearls, hearts or the like, and had that card returned in the mail asking for additional postage, this post is for you.

There are a few ways to get around paying extra postage on these types of cards.  According to the USPS website, for First-Class Mail “letter” rates, it must be at least 3-1/2 inches by 5 inches by 0.007 inches thick, and no more than 6-1/8 inches by 11–1/2 inches by 1/4 inches thick. If the mailpiece falls within these dimensions*, it is classified as a “letter”. If your “letter” is less than one ounce, it can be mailed, within the USA, with a regular first-class forever stamp.

Unusually shaped mail, like square or vertical envelopes*, “lumpy envelopes”, “rigid envelopes”, and mail with clasps, string, or buttons, must be “hand-canceled”. They are charged a nonmachinable surcharge even if they weigh less than one ounce.

* The length is the dimension parallel to the delivery address as read; the height is the dimension perpendicular to the length.

 

Tips For Mailing Thick Cards Or Cards With Embellishments

•  Keep your card under ¼ of an inch thick (including embellishments).
• Use layers of cardstock instead of foam tape when “popping up” elements on your card front.
• When using “bumpy” embellishments, keep them to the top half of your envelope (see my card as an example). The “top half” will be either the left or right half of the card, depending on which direction you put the card into the envelope. Doing this will prevent problems when going through the meter at the post office.
• Cover the “bumps” with packer’s tape on the outside of the envelope. This prevents the envelope from ripping when going through the meter. (The “bumps” can not be more than ¼” thick to qualify under the “regular letter postage” rules.
• Attach a sticker/label on the left side of the envelope, under the return address, stating “HAND CANCEL”. “Hand Cancel” means they will cancel the postage stamp on the envelope by hand instead of putting it through the meter. This costs a little more, but it’s worth the cost if you’ve ever experienced problems with your cards being returned or not making their destination.
• Hand deliver. Then you get to see the look on the recipient’s face when they open the card made just for them. You may have to endure the cost of airfare in order to do this one, but I thought I would include it as an option.

Now, on to the card. I started by inserting a rectangle shape onto an MS Word document.  I changed the size to 3.75” x 8.25”. Then I copied the Happy Bouquet png file from the Happy Bouquet digi stamp set and pasted it twice onto the rectangle shape in MS Word.  In addition, I copied and pasted the sentiment from the same digi stamp set.  This set includes super cute sentiments along with a beautiful floral arrangement.

After resizing the images, I printed the document onto Hammermill smooth white 100# Cardstock. Then I colored images with Ohuhu alcohol markers.  These are one of my new go-to coloring mediums. I’ve included all of the color combinations I used at the end of this post.

The finishing touches on that card include some aqua hearts by Lucy’s cards and some flat-back pearls I purchased on Amazon.com. Then I glued the panel to a 4” x 8.5” piece of light blue 100# cardstock and adhered the final product to a card base measuring the same size.

Seahorse Samm - Digi Stamp Set From TLC Designs

Hello, my crafty friends.  I hope you find time today to craft to your heart's content.  My name is Shannon and I’m so happy to be here with you. I’m so proud to work among a bunch of very talented designers.  Thank you, Tammy Louise, and Shanna for taking a chance on me.

Since I started shopping at TLC Designs, I’ve discovered digital stamps.  OMG, they are so much fun! You can print them individually or create an entire scene with them.  If you haven’t tried digital stamps, I highly recommend them.  The design possibilities are endless and their price point is unbeatable.

Now, on to the cards I’ve created.  That’s right, cards.  I couldn’t decide which way to create this card, so I created two.  One is with individual images, and the other is a digital scene I put together with almost exactly the same images.

I started by printing out the individual digi stamps and a scene I created from the “Sea horse Samm” digi stamp set by TLC Designs.  This set includes super cute sea creatures, sea foliage, sea shells, sentiments, and a sandy scene that could be used as the bottom of an underwater scene or maybe even a beach.

After I printed the individual images and the scene, I colored all of them with Ohuhu alcohol markers.  These are one of my new go-to coloring mediums. I’ve included all of the color combinations I used at the end of this post.

Both of the cards I created are slimline cards measuring 4” x 8.5”.  On the first card, I printed the sandy scene with the image at the bottom of the page so I could cut a 3.75” x 8.25” panel from that piece of cardstock. For the card with the individual images, I used my Brother Scan N Cut to cut all of the elements for that card.

I used two Ohuhu markers to color the water on both the full scene and the panel with only the sandy ocean bottom.  Using BG68, I swiped from side to side on the panels, leaving a small gap in between each of the brush strokes as to create movement in the water.  I came back to the panel with B030 and blended in the previously colored brush strokes.

For the sandy ocean bottom, I colored all of the sand with E230.  I then used Y11, Y12 and Y210 to create shadows and dots in the sand.  I believe that technique is called stippling.

For the card with the individual images, I glued them all in place on the panel with just the sandy ocean bottom, using acrylic matte medium.  I forgot that I wanted to pop up Sam the seahorse, but it was too late… I had already glued him down.  The only image I popped up with double-sided foam adhesive was the seashell at the bottom of the card.

Then, I brought the card panel to my MISTI to stamp the sentiment “Sending you happiness”, at the top.  This comes from the Must Haves Sentiments by TLC Designs.  This set includes lots of go-to sentiments we all use in card making. 

After stamping the sentiment with Versifine Onyx Black Pigment ink, I covered it with clear superfine embossing powder.  I used my heat tool to melt the embossing powder.  Watching embossing powder melt never gets old.  I love the shine it gives the stamped image.

The finishing touches on that card include some gems I used as bubbles and a foiled sentiment strip; I had on hand.  I glued both panels to 4” x 8.5” pieces of Neenah Desert Storm 80# cardstock. Then adhered the final products to card bases measuring the same size.

That’s it.  The cutest underwater scenes ever!

Dragon Happy Digi Stamp by TLC Designs - Handmade / DIY Greeting Card

Here is a card that I made with the Dragon Happy Digi stamp by TLC Designs. I colored the image with Copic markers: YG23, YG25, BG49, BG57, BG45, and BG53.

I also used the daisy from the Daisy frames die set, also by TLC Designs. I also colored that with copic markers: yg17, yg03, yg01, c00, y18, 15, y13, and y11.

For the background I used the Aztec Sunshine die set for the sun and the Land And Sea Dies for the grass and hillside. All are from TLC Designs. I ink-blended the grass and hillside with Catherine Pooler Inks: Eucalyptus and Sage.

For the cloudy sky, I used a stencil from My Favorite Things called rolling hills and Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide Ink.

I added a small border on the top and bottom of the card with Metallic cardstock in Holographic by lawn fawn.

For the sentiment, I used the Must Haves Sentiments Stamp Set from TLC Designs. I stamped "thinking of you" in Versamark ink after treating my paper with an anti-static powder tool. Then I covered the stamped image with WOW Superfine Opaque White Embossing Powder. I heat set that with my Wagner Heat Tool on setting 2 until the embossing powder melted.

I added the panel to a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white, side folding note card.

And voila, super cute dragon card! (the dragon is super cute... I'm not presuming that my card is super cute...lol)
